Some time after 1869, Aaron H. Walker wrote in his biography: "My ancestors as far back as I can learn came from Ireland and settled in Maryland in or about what year, I have never been able to learn - only that it was before the war for Independence. My Great Grandfather was named John, and in company with one of his brothers, Philip, moved and settled in Orange County, N.C., about 10 miles North West of Hillsborough before the Revolutionary War and as a soldier took part in it on the side of the Colonies, and for Independence. My Great Grandfather John married a Miss Ashford and they had eleven sons, but no daughters. My (Aaron) parents raised three sons and four daughters. OBITUARY: Newspaper Item: The Alamance Gleaner - April 17, 1919: Mr. J. Calvin Walker Dead - The death of Mr. J. Calvin Walker will be heard with surprise by his friends throughout the county. He was carried to Rainey Hospital for treatment a few days before his death, which occurred Sunday morning. He was 71 years of age and one of the county's best citizens. His home was in the northeastern part of the county and he was a successful farmer and tobacco raiser and had accumulated a nice estate. The remains were buried at Union Ridge Monday afternoon, funeral conducted by Dr. P. H. Fleming. He was never married. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Trolinger, who lived with him, and Mrs. John W. Smith of Durham, and one brother, Mr. J. Monroe Walker, who lives in the West, and other relatives. He was carried to Rainey Hospital for treatment a few days before his death, which occurred Sunday morning. He was 71 years of age and one of the county's best citizens. His home was in the northeastern part of the county and he was a successful farmer and tobacco raiser and had accumulated a nice estate. The remains were buried at Union Ridge Monday afternoon, funeral conducted by Dr. P. H. Fleming. He was never married. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Trolinger, who lived with him, and Mrs. John W. Smith of Durham, and one brother, Mr. J. Monroe Walker, who lives in the West, and other relatives. A member of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce, he was also an active member of the Uptown Business Association until his retirement in 1987. A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mark Smith Walker and Maude Walker, both deceased. She was a retired dietician and cafeteria manager for the Alamance County Schools. She was a member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church where she served as deacon and elder and was president of the Women of the Church. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Edith Anderson of Burlington and Mrs. Sarah Walker Cobb of Haw River; five nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a (1/2) brother, Garrison Nicks Walker. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Allen Huff, pastor. He was born Feb. 14, 1935 and was a lifelong resident of Alamance County. Malone was the son of Dallas and Marion Walker Anderson and Edith Anderson, all deceased. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nina Alcon Anderson; sisters, Lib (Donald) Smith, Ida Em Anderson and Sarah Jane (Ron) Wrightenberry, all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Pleasant Grove School, served in the U.S. Army but had to return home to farm with his father. He worked at Sandy Cross Service Station and Melville Chevrolet and retired after 34 years at Craftique Furniture. Dennison, aged 87 years last June 12th, died last Friday morning in the home of her son, Atlas Johnson, near Chesterfield, after a long disability and more than a year of confinement from a broken hip. She was first married to Dove Johnson and three children of the marriage survive, namely Luke and Atlas of this county, and Curry, Oklahoma. Two of the. Duke children survive, Everett and Zora (Mrs. Fayette Walker) of Madison County, and a stepson, Allen Duke, this county. Mrs Duke had been a member of the Baptist Church for 72 years or since she was sixteen, and to her church, as she was to every responsibility, she was true to the end. She was one of the sixteen children born to Robert and Nancy Walker Dennison, of whom but three survive, Mrs. Mary Myracle and R.L. Dennison,of this county, and Henry Dennison, Gigson County. Mrs. Duke was a woman whose life was crowded with hard work and meeting reponsiblities, which were many in her life. Her funeral occurred at Union Church and Cemetery last Saturday and in the service, Revs. Fleetwood Ball and W.F. Boren paid just tribute to her life and character. He is buried with a military marker that identified him as a lieutenant in the 11th Illinois Cavalry, but he is not listed on the roster of that unit. Mrs. Myracle was twice married, first to Frank Reed, who was killed by the accidental discharge of his own gun while on a bear hunt in 1874. Mrs. Nonie Johnson is fruit of this couple. Mrs. Myracle had no children by her second husband, the late Pinkney Myracle, who died 31 years ago in the old home in Decatur County but near the Henderson County line. She was married to Granville M. Walker Oct. 17, 1869. To this union were born six children, Elmer, Edwin, Ulysses, Mrs. Allen (Lela) Duke, L.M. and P.W. Walker. The three oldest died while young, the other three surviving. Her husband died December 2, 1924. She leaves one sister Mrs. Maggie Frizzell, Princeton TX. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 10 years, joining the Presbyterian Church at old Camp Ground Church, afterward joining the Union Baptist Church at Chesterfield of which she was still a devoted member. Walker was born, and on the 5th day of March, 1876, he died, age 53 years and 1 month, at his residence in Henderson County. Unexpectedly in the midst of life and usefulness, he was overtaken by death suddently, his sun of life went down at noon, and his seat is vacant, his gentle hand will no more alarm our outer door. After seven days of painful suffering, he peacefully and trustfully sank to rest. To say that our departed brother was free from fault would be to say that he was not human like all others of our kind: he was possessed of frailties, those, however, were overbalanced by his better qualities, though a man of fine conviction he was no narrow-minded sectarian, but had reached that higher standpoint recognized by the teachings of Masonry and Christianity. --C.H. OBITUARY: Newspaper not given: Yuma, Carroll County, TN: (1911) Mrs. Nancy Walker, widow of the late Levi Walker, aged about 70 years, died suddenly last Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cornelia Moody, near Yuma, Carroll County, TN. Mrs. Walker made her regular home with her son, Sydney, near Wildersville and at the time of her death was on a visit to her daughter. Deceased was Nancy Douglas, daughter of Bryant and sister of Gray, and was first married to Peter Rosser by whom she had three sons - all of whom survive -- Paley, Jim, and Jeff. Of the marriage with Levi Walker five children survive -- Levi, Robert, Bedford, Sydney, and Cornelia. Mrs. Walker was a splendid woman in every particular, and to her the devotion of her own children was remarkable. She was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church. OBITUARY: Lexington: In Memory of Paley Rosser: On Wednesday afternoon, April 5th, Mr. Rosser had a stroke of apoplexy and died close to the midnight following. Mr. Rosser is survived by his wife, one son, Ora, and one brother, J.W., beside the Walker children, who are his half-brothers and sister. Paley's mother was Nan Douglas, and by Mr. Rosser she was the mother of Paley, Jim, and Jeff (there may have been more children) and Paley's death leaves Jim as the only survivor. Mrs. Rosser married for her second husband, Levi Walker, and by him was the mother of Bedford, (Bud), Levi, Syd, and Neely, the only daughter marrying W.L. Moody, who recently died in Carroll County. Levi Walker was a brother of the late Washington Walker, who died at Chesterfield. Perhaps more than fifty years ago Paley Rosser lost his eyesight as a result of a gunshot form the hand of his brother-in-law named Blount, and we have often wondered if the misfortune of blindness which fell upon Paley did not have the effect of sharpening his naturally keen intellect, for it came to be an admitted fact that Paley knew more about people and the community generally in which he lived than did any seeing man in the same territory. But be that it may, instead of "sitting down in the ashes" of discontent because of his misfortune, Paley went to work to make his own living and that he accomplished as independently as well as could any man with eyes and indomitable spirit. Previous to the great fire which swept away the entire business section of Wildersville in May of last year, Paley owned and conducted a cold drink stand. Since the fire he rebuilt his house in brick and rented it instead of resuming business, preferring to conduct his grist mill, which he did unaided at times. His knowledge of the details and construction of that mill was little short of wonderful, and Paley took pride in taking his walking stick and pointing out the intricacies of its workings. He was a big-hearted soul, genial as the day was long, apparently, yet he told us that the only pleasure he found was in living for others. He rarely came to Lexington, but on his visits here, he never failed to come see us and have a good talk. We note that he was of the Baptist faith and that when the funeral occurred on Thursday afternoon of last week the service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A.U. Nunnery, assisted by Rev. Fleetwood Ball. Rosser, aged 54 years, died Tuesday night, December 27, at his home in Wildersville, of heart trouble, after an illness of considerable length. During recent weeks preceding the end, reports from Wildersville in regard to the condition of Mr. Rosser were not encouraging to his friends scattered all over the county, but when the news of his demise came they were not prepared for the shock. Jeff Rosser was one of nature's noblemen and it can safely be said that no citizen of Henderson County had more true, warm friends. He was a useful factor in the communtiy, a helper to the church (Baptist) in which he held membership. Mr. Rosser is survived by two full brothers, Jim and Paley Rosser, and one sister, Mrs. L.A. Moody; four half brothers, Bob, Levi, Bedford and Syd Walker; also his wife, three sons and two daughters. The elder son, M.C. is postmaster at Wildersville. The remains were interred December 28, at the Jones graveyard West of Wildersville, Revs. Fleetwood Ball and T.N. Boyd officiating in the service which was held in the home in Wildersville. OBITUARY: Newspaper not given: Nancy Elizabeth Rosser, wife of Jeff Rosser, was born October 4, 1865, and died November 6, 1928, aged 63 years. She leaves five children: namely, M.C. Rosser of Jackson; Cap of Wildersville; Clifford of Bruceton; Mrs. C.W. (Lena) Scott of Wildersville; and Mrs. Cecil Parker (Sella) Parker of Portageville, Missouri, also six grandchildren, three brothers and six sisters. She was the third child of a family of 12 children to die. Mrs. Rosser was the daughter of the late John and Kizzie Blount. She lived a devout member of the Baptist Church since childhood and her funeral was conducted in that church at Wildersville by Revs. Fleetwood Ball and A.U. Nunnery on Wednesday afternoon. She was sick about three months of complications but developed pneumonia last month and died at five o'clock Tuesday morning. Mrs. Rosser's husband was our friend, but it was not our pleasure to know her except through others who paid high tribute to her character and disposition. He died several years ago. We had more than one reason for interest in her, one being that she was the maternal grandmother of Lawton Scott, who lived under our roof during his last term in high school. Walker ~ Mr. Walker, who was 75 years old, died May 1st, 1943, at the home of his son, E.T. Walker, near Wildersville, with whom he made his home. He was the son of the late Levi and Nancy Douglas Walker, and was born in November 2, 1867. In the year 1888, he was married to Miss Fannie Milam and to this union were born nine children. Children are Priest Walker, Mrs. Madeline Yates, Martin, Max F., Robert of Yuma; and E.T. (Jim) Walker of Wildersville. A son, Audrain, and a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Ruby) Massey preceded him in death several years ago. He is survived by two brothers, R.L. Walker, Wildersville, and S.J. Walker, Williamsport, and a sister, Mrs. Neely Moody, of Yuma. Early in life he became a Christian uniting with the New Hope Baptist Church, later transferring his membership to the Yuma Church. He was married to Miss Grey Todd in the year 1889. Of the four children of this union, two died in infancy. The two surviving are Mrs. Mittie Franks of Jackson and E.H. Walker of Wildersville. Mrs. Walker died November 22, 1901, and he was married again November 2, 1901, to Mrs. Vernie McCall. To this union were born a daughter who died in infancy and Glynn, Paley, Cornelia, Buford, and Woodrow. Mr. Walker was baptized into the Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member to the end. In politics, he was a Democrat. Revs. A. U. Nunnery and T.M. Boyd conducted the funeral at the Jones graveyard in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends. OBITUARY: Wildersville, Henderson Co., TN: Woodrow W. Walker, 33, was killed in a tragic accident late Saturday night (24 Sep. 1951). He was crushed between two box cars in the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis RW yards in Paducah while attempting to couple them. Mr. Walker, a lifelong resident of Wildersville had been employed by the railroad as brakeman since 1941. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Bud and Vernie Walker. He was survived by his wife, three sons, Gale, Brent and Richard, and a daughter, Mary, all of Wildersville; three brothers, Glynn and Paley of Wildersville and Buford of Michigan; a sister Mrs. Edgar Scott, Wildersville; two half-brothers, Eunice Walker of Wildersville and Pat McCall of Chesterfield; two half sisters, Mrs. Henry Franks of Wildersville and Mrs. Oscar Milam of Memphis. OBITUARY: Excerpts from: Source - The Lexington - Tennessee Progress - October 17, 1913: In Loving Rememberance: Nancy Jane Bray Dennison, daughter of John and Minerva Bray, was born in Henderson County, November 2nd, 1845, and at the hour of 5 o'clock p.m., Tuesday, October 7th, 1913, peacefully passed to her reward in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. V. Barry, in Lexington, surrounded by all of her seven children except Mrs. F. A. Helton of Santa Monica, California and Mrs. J. G. McMillan of Decaturville. On November 3, 1860, at the age of fifteen years and one day. Miss Nancy Jane Bray was married to Curry P. Dennison. All of the eight children except Allie, the youngest, were born in the Henderson County home near Lone Elm, and Allie, who married Ed Butler, lived in Memphis and died suddenly May 12, 1904, while on a visit to Decaturville, has been the only one to die. The surviving children are Fredonia, widow of J. T. Rogers; Kittie wife of Dr. J. G. McMillan, Granville, all of Decaturville; William of Perryville, Mary, wife of W. V. Barry; Rosetta, widow of James R. Blount (Mrs. Blount now lives in Lexington), and Bertha, wife of Frank A. Helton, who moved to Los Angeles, California, about ten years ago and yet lives at Santa Monica, on the coast near Los Angeles. The remains were carried to Decaturville on Wednesday, October 8, and there in the Baptist Church of which she was a member. Curry and Nancy owned and operated the Decaturville Hotel.
