I can remember my Mother telling about a visiting their farm. she was sickly, called a blue baby and she was sent to Aunt Emma's for the summer. After that summer she had no more fainting spells and put some fat on her body. She didn't know it then but she was preparing for her life. She worked very hard and no challenge was too difficult for her. Electa S. (Addie) Hunt married Conrad Voelker. Lela Voelker is their daughter. She never married. She and my mother were good friends. Signed: G. Kenneth Hibbard, Justice of the Peace, under the Seal of the state of Indiana.
FAMILY NOTE: According to an oral history told by Hannah to her grandson Thomas Walker: Hannah and her parents lived for a short time on Beaver Island, Charlevoix Co., MI and later in Petoskey, Emmet Co., MI. Her father was a logger and he moved around northern Michigan following the sawmills for work. The family of 14 was very poor and both parents and older children worked outside the home to make ends meet. Hannah was 11 or 12 when she suffered from fainting spells and was sent to her Uncle and Aunt, Jack and Emma (Hunt) Ferguson for the summer. When she returned home she had put on some weight and no longer had the "spells". Hannah's first husband Harry Tompkins attended Petosky High School around 1902-05 and was on the wrestling team. Harry and Hannah met in Chicago. He was expert ice skater and a barrel jumper. They lived for a time in Chicago, IL, Emmet Co., MI, Saginaw Co., MI, and Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. Hannah and Harry divorced in 1930 and she sued him for non support. Harry's grandmother, Susan McMaster, owned the Grand Rapids house they lived in and Hannah reached an agreement with Susan that if she deeded over the house to Hannah, Hannah would never ask for support again. Hannah had the house renovated. the children were placed in the Blodgett Home for Children so Hannah could work until the house was done. Hannah married Tom Callis after 1930. Thomas came to the United States at around age eighteen. Thomas had one child by his first marriage, Nicholas. They had two daughters together and his son from a prior marriage living with them and the rest of the children. Tom Callis owned a restaurant in Grand Rapids and after his death in 1937 Hannah sold the restaurant and moved to a 110 acre farm on 10 mile Rd., Rockford, Kent Co., MI. In 1948 Hannah married Farland Wilson. She ran him off and then divorced him in 1949 when she found out he was stealing and selling the farm animals and equipment. Next, Hannah married Charlie Brown in 1950. He was killed in 1950 when a wagon he was driving had its tongue break and slammed into a tree. Charlie was knocked off and the wagon rolled over him. Hannah lastly married Justin Case. During their 30 year marriage they built and remodeled homes for later sales and they also solely financed the construction of the Assembly of God Churches in Greenville, Montcalm Co., MI and in Rockford, Kent Co., MI.
